Amber Houghstow has been shaping minds and futures with her exceptional tutoring skills since 2007. With a passion for education and a talent for making complex topics accessible, she has supported hundreds of students across age groups and learning styles. Amber holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and a master's degree in international relations from Harvard, blending analytical rigor with a global perspective.

Amber’s early teaching experience includes several impactful years as a Teach for America educator, where she taught middle school math, including remedial and accelerated curricula. Her students consistently met or exceeded standardized testing goals, a testament to her ability to break down difficult concepts and inspire confidence in young learners. Today, her math expertise spans basic operations, geometry, pre-algebra, algebra I & II, and targeted remediation for grades 4 through 7.

Amber also specializes in working with English Language Learners, particularly in writing and reading comprehension. Her students have gone on to win writing contests, gain admission to competitive schools, and excel in science projects. As a science tutor, she brings a unique emphasis on writing and project execution—guiding students through science fairs and helping them develop critical life skills like time management and long-term planning.

Known for her warm, adaptive teaching style, Amber builds meaningful relationships with students and helps them achieve both academic success and personal growth. Outside the classroom, she enjoys hiking, building things, language learning, and connecting with people from all walks of life—interests that enrich her dynamic and relatable approach to teaching.
