Boston Private Tutors is growing our team of thoughtful, creative educators and staff members. We offer one-on-one tutoring, group homeschool courses, workshops, summer camps, and community programs, both virtually and in-person in the Greater Boston area.

We are a small company, so we value people who communicate clearly, take ownership of their work, and enjoy helping build better programs and systems. We care about excellent subject knowledge, but we also care deeply about curiosity, kindness, safety, organization, and respect for young people.

Tutors and Homeschool Course Instructors

We are hiring educators for virtual programs and in-person work throughout Greater Boston.

Most of our tutoring is one-on-one and virtual, although we also offer Boston-area in-person tutoring and hands-on instruction. We primarily serve students in grades 6–12, but we are expanding our elementary, homeschool, interdisciplinary, and enrichment programs.

Subjects We Teach

We are hiring instructors across the full range of STEM subjects, including:

  • Elementary, middle school, and high school mathematics

  • Algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, statistics, competition math, and advanced coursework

  • Biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, earth and space science, anatomy, health science, and other laboratory sciences

  • Computer science, programming, data science, and technology

  • Engineering, robotics, electronics, design, CAD, 3D printing, fabrication, woodworking, metalworking, and makerspace instruction

  • SAT, ACT, AP, and other academic or standardized test preparation

We are especially interested in educators who can teach chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering, robotics, or hands-on building and fabrication.

Although our traditional focus has been STEM for grades 6–12, we are also hiring instructors in:

  • Elementary education

  • Social-emotional learning, confidence, boundaries, self-advocacy, and healthy relationships

  • Communication, teamwork, leadership, public speaking, and debate

  • Creative writing, literature, history, social science, and other humanities

  • Visual art, filmmaking, theater, music, and other creative fields

  • Interdisciplinary and project-based learning

  • Teaching neurodivergent students and students with varied learning and access needs

One-on-One Tutoring

Our tutors do more than explain content or help students finish assignments. Strong tutors can identify what a student understands, uncover the source of confusion, explain difficult ideas in several ways, and coach students through productive struggle.

We want students to become more confident and independent over time. Tutors teach learning strategies alongside academic content, including planning, active recall, problem-solving, studying, and recognizing when and how to ask for help.

Tutors should be able to:

  • Build warm, respectful relationships with students

  • Adapt explanations and activities to an individual learner

  • Communicate clearly with parents and the Boston Private Tutors team

  • Prepare for lessons and keep useful records of student progress

  • Help students develop curiosity, perseverance, and confidence

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and dependable schedules

Homeschool Courses and Group Programs

We also hire instructors to design and lead homeschool courses, workshops, and other small-group programs.

Tutoring and course leadership require different strengths. An excellent tutor may not want to design a complete course, while an excellent course instructor may specialize in group learning rather than one-on-one academic support. Applicants may be a good fit for either or both roles.

Course instructors should enjoy:

  • Developing engaging curricula and project-based lessons

  • Facilitating discussions and collaborative work

  • Building a positive group culture

  • Adjusting activities for students with different experience levels

  • Creating projects that give students meaningful choices

  • Helping students produce, build, investigate, perform, or communicate something real

  • Teaching both content and skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and communication

We welcome experienced teachers and professional tutors as well as engineers, scientists, artists, writers, makers, graduate students, and other subject-matter experts with strong teaching ability.

We are particularly interested in people who love their subjects, think carefully about how students learn, and want to collaborate with other educators instead of working in isolation.

Communications and Operations Assistant

Boston Private Tutors is hiring a part-time Communications and Operations Assistant to help keep client communication, marketing, partnerships, and program logistics moving.

This role is for someone who is fast, organized, warm, and good at turning rough ideas into clear, useful communication.

You will help with things like:

  • Writing polished emails to parents, clients, partners, venues, and team members

  • Learning and using software quickly, including AI tools, Notion, Canva, email platforms, scheduling systems, and client-management tools

  • Updating documents, webpages, email campaigns, forms, and internal systems

  • Creating simple Canva graphics and basic email or HTML layouts

  • Drafting video scripts, captions, newsletters, and other communications

  • Coordinating logistics, scheduling meetings, following up, and keeping projects on track

  • Researching potential partners, venues, communities, and outreach opportunities

  • Finding relevant online spaces and participating in a helpful, positive way

  • Supporting partnership outreach and communication with families and community members

You should be someone who:

  • Can write a professional client email quickly

  • Understands how to talk to parents about their children with warmth and clarity

  • Learns new tools quickly and can figure out how to use them effectively

  • Can create clean, simple designs in Canva

  • Is organized, proactive, and reliable about follow-through

  • Notices missing information and asks useful questions

  • Can communicate professionally without sounding stiff

  • Is comfortable working in a small company where priorities sometimes change and good systems are still being built

Social Media Strategist

Boston Private Tutors is hiring a Social Media Strategist to help more families discover our tutoring, homeschool courses, summer camps, and COVID-cautious youth programs.

We have strong programs, meaningful student outcomes, enthusiastic families, and a founder with a clear educational perspective. We are looking for someone who can turn those strengths into a focused social media strategy that builds trust, reaches the right audiences, and leads to inquiries and enrollment.

This is not only a content-production role. We need someone who can determine what we should communicate, who each message is for, where we should share it, and how individual posts contribute to larger enrollment and community-building goals.

You will help with things like:

  • Developing a social media strategy for our tutoring, homeschool, summer camp, and COVID-cautious youth audiences

  • Identifying distinct audiences and creating content that speaks directly to their needs

  • Building content pillars, campaign plans, and a realistic publishing calendar

  • Turning student projects, parent feedback, educational ideas, program footage, and founder expertise into useful and engaging content

  • Writing strong hooks, captions, calls to action, video concepts, and short-form scripts

  • Planning enrollment campaigns around courses, camps, tutoring seasons, and application deadlines

  • Repurposing longer material into posts, reels, carousels, emails, and other formats

  • Advising on which platforms and online communities are most valuable for each program

  • Finding appropriate opportunities for partnerships, cross-promotion, and community engagement

  • Reviewing performance data and using it to improve future content

  • Tracking inquiries, email signups, consultations, and enrollments rather than focusing only on views or follower counts

  • Helping develop a consistent voice that is intelligent, warm, clear, practical, and recognizably Boston Private Tutors

  • Coordinating with the founder, instructors, administrative support, photographers, and video editors

  • Handling student stories, testimonials, photos, and videos with careful attention to consent and privacy

You should be someone who:

  • Can think strategically while also helping ideas become finished, published work

  • Understands how parents evaluate educational services and decide whom to trust

  • Can communicate the value of excellent teaching without relying on fear, pressure, or exaggerated promises

  • Can explain educational ideas clearly without making them generic or oversimplified

  • Understands how content, community engagement, email marketing, and enrollment campaigns support one another

  • Can distinguish between the needs of tutoring families, homeschool families, COVID-cautious families, and prospective instructors

  • Uses analytics to make decisions and can explain what is and is not working

  • Is comfortable experimenting, measuring results, and changing direction when needed

  • Can preserve a thoughtful brand voice while making content accessible and interesting

  • Is organized, collaborative, and able to work with a founder who generates many ideas quickly

Experience marketing educational programs, youth programs, professional services, summer camps, or mission-driven organizations is especially helpful.

Canva, short-form video, photography, editing, paid advertising, email marketing, or community-management skills are welcome, but we do not expect one person to be an expert in every production skill.

About Boston Private Tutors

Boston Private Tutors was founded by MIT mechanical engineer Stephanie Schmit to make excellent education more collaborative, personal, and humane.

Stephanie started the company because she did not want tutoring to be competitive and isolated. She wanted educators to share methods, learn from one another, and improve the quality of education they provide instead of everyone reinventing the wheel alone.

We believe respect, safety, and clear communication come first. Our goal is not simply to deliver information. We want students to become curious, capable learners who enjoy solving problems, understand how they learn, communicate effectively, and feel increasingly confident taking on difficult things.

We focus on cultivating curiosity, perseverance, independence, teamwork, and enjoyment in learning. We also work hard to provide families with an organized, thoughtful experience through clear communication, careful planning, and smooth logistics.

As a small, growing company, we are still developing new courses, programs, partnerships, and systems. Team members may have opportunities to help shape that growth rather than simply stepping into a rigid, finished structure.
